Not obviously China-related, except the Chinese love to watch the English Premier League and this story involves a young sportsman not telling us he’s older than he really is. I’m not a huge fan of football these days and I swear allegiance to no tribe. But I love this picture, lifted from the Timesonline sports section, for capturing perfectly the moment when a 17-year-old Italian, making his first-team debut, struck in injury time to score the winner as Manchester United beat Aston Villa 3-2 yesterday afternoon.

His name is Federico Macheda; expect to hear more about the boy. Wile we’re about it, where the hell is China’s young footballing talent? They must be out there somewhere.
